Pune city police have imposed prohibitory orders at COEP Technological University and its hostel premises in Shivajinagar, banning political activities and gatherings for four days following a clash between members of the ABVP and NSUI.

Deputy commissioner of police Prashant Amrutkar issued the order on Saturday under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), a day after an incident at the university hostel.
According to the order, there was a possibility of outsiders, political party leaders and workers entering the campus, interacting with students, holding meetings, raising slogans, organising protests or demonstrations and mobilising crowds in connection with the incident.
The order prohibits political persons from entering the university and hostel premises.
The restrictions will remain in force from noon on August 22 until midnight on August 26.
Police warned that violators would face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

{{/usCountry}}On Friday evening, members of the ABVP and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) came face to face at the COEP hostel, leading to tension on the campus. Police subsequently registered an FIR at Shivajinagar police station against 50-60 alleged Congress workers.
The incident has since triggered allegations and counter-allegations between the two student organisations and their political affiliates, prompting police to impose restrictions to prevent further escalation on campus.
