Gadkari cuts convoy size by half during Pune visit to conserve fuel

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will reduce his convoy by 50% during his Pune visit to promote fuel conservation and national energy security.

Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has directed the Pune district administration to reduce the number of vehicles in his convoy during his Pune visit on May 14 and 15, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to cut fuel consumption.

Gadkari will visit Pune on Thursday and Friday to inspect the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg projects.

In a letter to the district administration, Gadkari stressed the need to reduce fuel consumption in transportation to strengthen national energy security. He said he would travel by bus along with officers, journalists and security personnel during the visit.

“I am scheduled to inspect the Palkhi Marg project. As advised by the Prime Minister, reducing fuel consumption for transportation is essential for national energy security. I have decided to travel by bus along with accompanying officers, journalists and security personnel, which will also facilitate better traffic management,” the letter stated.

The Union minister also instructed officials to cut the number of vehicles in the convoy by 50% compared to the usual deployment during such tours.
