Pune district guardian minister Chandrakant Patil has asked the Pune Municipal Corporation to improve its ranking in the Swacch Survekshan from ninth to first five.

On Monday, the Pune Municipal Corporation felicitated employees and citizens who took part in the PMC’s clean city drive. The event was attended by municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar, additional municipal commissioner Kunal Khemnar, solid waste management department head Asha Raut and brand ambassador Salil Kulkarni.
Patil stated, “Last year, PMC was ranked ninth in the country. Now, the administration must set a higher goal and place the city among the top five in the clean city initiative. Citizens must also participate in this drive.”
Reacting to Patil’s plea, Kumar said, “Pune is the state’s largest metropolitan area. PMC’s population increased to 62 lakh after the villages were merged. Every day, the city generates 22 metric tonnes of garbage. PMC had 12000 employees working on garbage collection and management.”
Talking about steps to improve the city’s rating, The commissioner stated, “It is mandatory for large housing societies that generate more than 100 kg garbage per day to process their own garbage. PMC is also attempting to process 100 per cent garbage waste.”
