After meeting the residents of merged villages on Monday, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to form a committee comprising citizens to discuss the property tax issue.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure had convened the meeting to hear residents’ grievances regarding property tax.
Many citizens complained that they are yet to receive basic infrastructure such as water supply, roads, streetlights and public amenities after the merger, while the civic body is demanding full property tax. Some residents demanded that the civic body should apply the rates by considering the property age.
Nagpure said, “Ideally, the tax should be increased gradually instead of imposing the full tax at once. When these areas were under the gram panchayat, taxes were lower, but they increased after the merger. The matter will be discussed with the state government soon.”
Meanwhile, Prithviraj BP, additional municipal commissioner, said, “The administration is implementing policies as per the rule. We are executing the resolutions cleared by the PMC general body.”
