PMC squad will keep eye on illegal digging, contractor will face action for shoddy road work
The additional commissioner gave strict instructions to not allow digging after April. The reinstatement work will begin post April as per guidelines
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday announced that a special squad will keep surveillance on the road digging activity that has been undertaken as part of pre-monsoon preparedness. Action will be taken against contractors for substandard road work, said officials.
Taking lessons from last year, additional municipal commissioner Vikas Dhakne called a meeting of all road department officials and discussed road digging and reinstatement work on Thursday.
In the meeting, the additional commissioner gave strict instructions to not allow digging after April. The reinstatement work will begin post April as per guidelines.
Dhakne said, “We have trained all engineers to carry out reinstatement work in a scientific way. Instructions have been given to closely monitor the work. We will take action on contractors if they fail to carry quality work. We will not give permission to dig roads after April to any private agency. Permission will be given to PMC departments only if there is an emergency.”
Sahebrao Dandge, superintendent engineer, PMC road department said, “ We have deputed a road department squad to keep eye on illegal digging. We will also publish contact numbers of the squad so that people can also report illegal digging in their areas. The squad will work from Monday to Saturday.”
“Road department has kept allocated over ₹100 crore to repair work during monsoon period. It will also include reinstatement work. We have given strict instructions to Maha-Metro to complete digging work and restatement work before monsoon,” he added.
