Rural Maharashtra reports more jabs that urban areas

While urban areas have hardly completed over 37,000 doses every day, rural parts reported over 60,000 vaccinations on daily basis in the last few days

Daily Covid vaccination during the festive season has seen a dip in urban areas across Maharashtra as per the Co-WIN dashboard data. While urban areas have hardly completed over 37,000 doses every day, rural parts reported over 60,000 vaccinations on daily basis in the last few days. Officials note that families visiting hometown during the festive season have seen a rise in vaccination number in rural areas.

Dr Sachin Desai, state immunisation officer, said, “The vaccination drive is going at a good pace in the state. We have sufficient vaccine stock. There is a slight drop in vaccination as many visit their native place during the festive period.”

On August 24, 34,952 jabs were given to individuals in urban areas across Maharashtra as compared to 65,380 in rural areas, as per the Co-WIN dashboard. This week, so far, rural areas reported more jabs than urban areas.

Dr Suryakant Deokar, immunisation officer, PMC health department, “During the festive season, the response is less than before but it is likely to pick up pace. We have sufficient vaccine stock.”

On August 24, urban areas in Pune district reported 2,908 doses administered as compared to 818 doses in rural area. On August 21, 1,883 doses were administered in rural areas of the district which had been on the higher side; however, on the same day, urban areas reported 4,212 doses given.
