Two men sentenced to life for 2016 gang rape of teenager

According to the prosecution, the survivor had travelled from Baramati and alighted at Talegaon railway station, where the accused allegedly lured her on the pretext of offering food

A sessions court on Monday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the gang rape of an 18-year-old woman near Talegaon railway station in Pune district in 2016, holding them guilty after accepting the prosecution’s evidence.

Additional Sessions Judge S M Tapkir of the Shivajinagar District and Sessions Court also imposed a fine of 25,000 on each of the convicts.

The convicts were identified as Sharad Muralidhar Salve (35) and Ankitsingh Ratansingh Bista alias Kangvaya (34).

According to the prosecution, the survivor had travelled from Baramati and alighted at Talegaon railway station, where the accused allegedly lured her on the pretext of offering food. They then took her to a parking area near the station and sexually assaulted her.

The investigation was conducted by the then police sub-inspector Shamsuddin Shaikh and his team attached to the Lohmarg police station. During the trial, the prosecution examined 12 witnesses.
