The story of the rabbit and tortoise is well known to all of us. The destination is known yet one will reach the goal faster than the other if he runs with the speed of the rabbit rather than that of the tortoise. Of course, the rabbit has to run continuously without a break so as to reach earlier than the other. Like the rabbit, we also know our destination of self-realisation but we have forgotten our speed and are moving slowly like a tortoise through various faiths and religions. The speed of reaching god is independent of any faith or religion.
It is said that the whole journey is divided in seven rounds of which three-and-a-half rounds have been completed 2,600 years ago. Reaching half way has taken 3,000 million years, and it will take the same time to complete the journey back to our true home and become one with the lord. However, the lord got concerned with the slow speed of spiritual development and sent yogis all over the world in the 6th century BC to show the faster way back to him.
Buddha and Mahavir were born in India; Zoroaster in Unan, Confucius in China, Pythagoras in Greece, the Druids in UK, Milarepa with some time difference in Tibet and so on. This was no ordinary event; some humans had reached the goal of liberation through yoga and meditation, not waiting for 3,000 million years.
It is now for all of us to take the hint and engage in yoga and meditation. It is rightly said, “To be full of materialism is to be empty of god, and to be empty of materialism is to be full of god.” One has to keep only that much as is necessary for normal living and devote oneself to the search of god.
