The biggest surprise has been the names atop the leading run-getters and wicket-takers’ list — Jacques Kallis and Chaminda Vaas. Kallis, who’s not known to possess the strokes required to succeed in this format, has come out all guns blazing this season. Vaas, too, has been lethal upfront, picking up wickets to peg the opposition on the back-foot.

The most eye-catching performances have, however, come from the Indians. Yusuf Pathan reaffirmed his reputation with a 37-ball century, and Praveen Kumar stole the show with the first hattrick of the season.

On the flip side, injuries have taken a toll.
