Shoaib strained his calf muscle while training with the team on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi.

As the first match, scheduled later on Wednesday, team officials said the fast bowler would have to undergo a fitness test to be cleared for the opening match.

"He is not in very good condition at the moment and we will have to wait and see how his injury progress on Thursday," the official said.

The fast bowler only made a comeback to the national team last month during the four-nation T20 international tournament in Toronto and has played in two first class matches at home before being picked for the Abu Dhabi series.

He was sidelined from the national team throughout the year after being banned by the board for disciplinary problems and was only recently considered again for selection.
