Suspended Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif found himself in a fresh controversy late on Saturday night after he was stopped by the immigration officials at the airport in New Delhi due to visa related issues but was later allowed to move out following intervention by the Pakistan High Commission officials.
The 25-year-old right-arm bowler, who has been dogged by a series of controversies and a dope scandal, found himself in more trouble after he landed at the Delhi airport on Saturday via Mumbai.
The immigration officials for carrying "insufficient documents" according to sources stopped Asif.
"Asif has a five-year visa issued to him which states he can travel to India as an international cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League.
"But since he has gone on a private visit and not to play cricket, he was supposed to inform the Indian High Commission in Islamabad for clearance which he did not do," the source said.
However, the immigration officials later permitted him to leave the airport following the intervention of the officials from the Pakistan High Commission and Delhi Daredevils, the team for which he played in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League.
"He is very much in Delhi and will be meeting officials for issues related to his payment," Delhi Daredevils chief executive officer Amrit Mathur told PTI on Sunday.
