Australia beat defending champions Pakistan by 34 runs in a Group A match of the World Twenty20 in St Lucia.

Deciding to bat, Australia were all out for 191 runs before restricting Pakistan to 157.

Shane Watson smashed 81 off 49 deliveries with the help of seven fours and four sixes while David Hussey struck 53 off 29 balls that included five sixes and two fours. The last over from Mohammad Aamer (3-23) saw the dismissal of five batsman, two of them were run outs.

Misbah-Ul-Haq top scored for Pakistan with 41 runs while skipper Shahid Afridi made 33.

For Australia, Shaun Tait (3-20) and Dirk Nannes (3-41) took three wickets each.
