The BCCI will continue to oppose the compulsory use of Decision Review System (DRS) at the International Cricket Council's (ICC) five-day annual conference that begins in Hong Kong on Sunday. Also, the board is confident that the "cost factor" will deter many other boards from supporting it.
The ICC Cricket Committee has unanimously recommended the use of DRS in all Test, ODI and T20 internationals. The issue will come up first for discussion in the ICC Chief Executives' Committee (CEC), which will kick-start the annual conference.
If cleared by the CEC, the final decision will rest with the ICC Executive Board that will meet on June 28 and 29, an ICC release said.
The BCCI has opposed the use of this technology in all their bi-lateral series since their tour to Sri Lanka in 2008, where the players felt the system wasn't foolproof.
"Many boards (like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe) cannot afford the over $50,000 per day cost of using the DRS. We don't expect all countries to support the recommendation," said a BCCI official. BCCI secretary N Srinivasan will represent the board in the CEC and he would look to stall the proposal at that stage itself.
However, the meeting could end up being a stormy affair with the Pakistan Cricket Board announcing its support to the system on Saturday. England, Australia and New Zealand are already in favour of DRS.
