If ratified at the board’s AGM on September 27 and 28, the paid selection committees will be formed immediately after that.

The five members of the men’s selection committee will get an annual retainership amount of Rs 25 lakh each. This amount is Rs 15 lakh for the junior selection committee members and Rs 5 lakh for the women’s team selectors.

After a three-hour brain storming meeting, the working committee finalised the norms. As expected, the most contentious topic of discussion was whether an office-bearer of the BCCI or any of its affiliated units can be a selector. And the committee decided against it.

“We wanted the selection panel to be completely transparent and unbiased,” a member who attended the meeting said. The committee also recommended that a former player could become a selector 10 years after his retirement.

While the members welcomed the decision, it remains to be seen whether the state associations implement the same policy while selecting their respective teams. It would also be interesting to see whether the current selectors agree to the conditions.
