The Indian team might have failed at the World Cup, but the cricket board will receive $11.47 million as guarantee money from the 16-nation tournament held in the West Indies recently.
Niranjan Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said that the board would receive the money from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for sending the team to the premier competition.
"The BCCI, along the other nine Test-playing countries, will receive $11.47 million from the ICC for the Indian team's participation in the World Cup," Shah told IANS.
"The 15 players who went for the World Cup will also get a share from this money," he said over phone from India, but did not mention the amount.
The other nations that will receive the same amount are Australia, who won the World Cup title last month, Sri Lanka, who lost to Ricky Ponting's team in the final, South Africa, England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
The Indian team lost two of the three group matches and crashed out in the first round itself. Rahul Dravid's side lost to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and recorded their solitary win against minnows Bermuda.
