After basking in the sun, it was time to enjoy the moon. It had nothing to do with cricket, though. On Wednesday evening, at a park here, it was time for Jamaica's 'other' attractions to display their skills and boy, did they have a blast!
Coinciding with the World Cup, is the final round of the Miss Jamaica contest, and the 16 finalists for that event to be held on March 25 were there along with Shaggy - the latest reggae sensation in Bob Marley country.
The venue - the parking lot of a housing development company - wasn't really choc-a-block for the first half of the show and one could really get up and close to the Jamaican beauties fighting for the right to represent their country at the Miss Universe contest in Mexico.
"We don't usually have such programmes at an open-air venue, so this one is rather unique, probably to commemorate the World Cup," said a spectator, sipping his glass of alcohol, which was also available in a public place in a departure from normal practice.
As a welcome change, there was no cricket in the air and the people of Kingston showed that they were not too averse to the idea. "You play when you play and have fun when you don't," said another reveller. "The West Indies are not playing tomorrow, anyway."

Taking your eyes off what was happening on the stage also did not reduce the feel good factor, as they were plenty of other attractions around! The battle between bat and ball will dominate proceedings, yes, but there are other things in life too.
