The president of the Indian cricket board Shashank Manohar has been authorised to deal with the dispute with IMG, the sports management firm that conducted the two editions of the IPL.
“BCCI Chief Shashank Manohar has been authorised to deal with the IMG issue and report to the board at its AGM on September 24,” said Rajiv Shukla, vice president of BCCI, on Wednesday.
The board had recently terminated their contract with IMG claiming the firm was overcharging. And the issue was discussed here in the meeting of the IPL governing council.
Former board president Sharad Pawar, who was chief of BCCI when the contract was signed, had sent out a letter to the board on Tuesday in support of IMG. He had written that the board’s unilateral action could damage the image of Indian Premier League and also upset other stakeholders.
Pawar, who is now president of Mumbai Cricket Association, said that this could also lead to prolonged legal battles.
IMG was paid about Rs 43 crore for the first IPL season held in 2008. And they could receive about Rs 33 crore for the second edition held in South Africa this year.

{{/usCountry}}The board’s sudden decision had threatened to snowball into a major controversy with seven of eight IPL franchises writing to the board questioning the decision to leave IMG out.
Shukla also said that all the franchises had submitted their bills for the expenses during IPL-2 in South Africa. “The additional cost will be considered and suitably compensated,” he said.
