Test cricket will return to its traditional slot between Christmas and New Year after fans protested about the scrapping of the fixture in 2012, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Thursday.
"We've clearly noted the concerns and it was heart-warming to see such a passion for Test cricket being expressed," CSA acting chief executive Jacques Faul said. "We're going to have to take Test cricket more seriously and I can see the Boxing Day Test definitely being played again soon," he said.
The 2012 'Boxing Day test' has been replaced by a T20 against New Zealand this year.
Philander is the best
Johannesburg: Vernon Philander swept Cricket South Africa's Gala Awards, bagging three top awards, including the 'Cricketer of the Year' honour here on Wednesday night.
Philander was also named the 'Test Cricketer of the Year' and to put an extra cherry on the top, he also won in the national popularity stakes by fans who made him CSA Fans' Cricketer of the Year with their online votes.
