Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke downplayed the on-field spats between Indian opener Gautam Gambhir and his teammates on the opening day of the third cricket Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Indian opener Gambhir, who stroked an unbeaten 149, accused Australia of resorting to pressure tactics to unsettle him.
Gambhir had an exchange of words with Shane Watson when the all-rounder got in his way of running and the Indian elbowed him out, but he later insisted it was not deliberate.
Gambhir had another run-in with Simon Katich, who blocked his way at the non-striker's end. Skipper Ricky Ponting, umpire Billy Bowden and Michael Clarke had to intervene to calm down frayed nerves.
"I really don't know what happened because I was standing a bit away. I just asked Kats (Katich) to let it go. For me it is very important to get on with the game," Clarke said.
Clarke said that it was a batting surface and Indian batsmen made the most of it.
"It was a flat surface to bat on and Indian batsmen really played well. After having watched Gambhir and Tendulkar bat, I am waiting for my turn," he said.
