CoA completes appraisal process of BCCI employees, 11 handed promotions

Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji further clarify that the ‘conflict of interest’ issues will be looked into by the ombudsman and ethics officers of the board and the state associations.

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) confirmed on Monday that they have completed the appraisal process of all the BCCI employees and that every worker had been duly rewarded for their efforts over the last year.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, both Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji denied reports that the increment process of the BCCI employees had been stalled this year and went on to add that 11 people were in fact handed promotions for their efforts through the last year.

“There is no truth to the news that the increment process is on hold. We have already completed the process and 11 employees have been given promotions for their hardwork over the last year,” they said.

CoA chief Rai also cleared the committee’s position over the ‘conflict of interest’ clause that saw the Cricket Advisory Committee — comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman — staying away from the appointment of Debasis Mohanty as a junior selector.

On Monday, Rai said that the CoA has now decided that it is for the ombudsman and ethics officers of the state associations and the board to look into the matter as it is not their domain.

“Conflict and other integrity issues will be decided by the ombudsman and the ethics officer. We are recommending the court to appoint ombudsman and ethics officer for the BCCI and all the states and they are the ones who will interpret this. As I told you earlier, it is not our mandate to address any of these issues. Otherwise, all conflict issues from states and BCCI will come to us.

“Neither do we have the wherewithal, nor are we the persons mandated to do the interpretation. So, we are approaching the court much before the election process is conducted that the electoral officer, the ethics officer and the ombudsman — all three — will be appointed and they will look into this,” he said.
