For Love Ablish, though, it’s been a dream comeback. The Punjab spearhead is a frontrunner to finish as the highest wicket-taker of the season. His current count is 32, just one behind Karnataka’s Vinay Kumar.

“It’s been the best of the three seasons I’ve played. That it comes immediately after returning from the ICL makes it doubly satisfying,” said Ablish. The generally quiet youngster, however, isn’t surprised with his bagful of wickets.

“I was confident of doing well. My only concern was fitness. I suspected I might not withstand the rigours of four-day games after playing just limited-over cricket in the last two seasons with the ICL,” said Ablish. “It was, however, taken care of in the pre-season camps. After that, it was just a matter of bowling to the best of my abilities.” The grateful youngster didn’t forget to mention ICL in his moment of success. “Playing with those big players helped me mature. I can now read situations well and I know my craft better,” said Ablish.
