The ball lands in front of the bat and takes the top edge and it eventually lobs off the shoulder of Stokes. It pops up for an easy catch for Shubman Gill at short third. A timely wicket for India. Stokes falls for 33 (51). England are now 302/5, needing 69 more runs.

EDGED, FOUR! Going all south for India now! Just outside off, on a fullish length, just does enough to nip away from the batter. Ben Stokes brings the bat in front to push that into the off side, but gets a thick, healthy outside edge. With a wide first slip on, the ball passes between the keeper and the wide first slip for a boundary at deep third.

FOUR! That is a glorious stroke! Fuller ball, outside off, nipping away. Ben Stokes jumps out of his bunker and thrashes that hard and through the covers for a boundary. Seeing off Bumrah's spell quietly, and attacking the others, this has been the plan by England and it has worked magnificently for the hosts, of course, with a good execution.

Does not quite connect and the replays show that it indeed came off the glove. Rishabh Pant was blinded by Stokes standing in front of him and was not aware of where the ball was. It lobbed and landed beside him Stokes to his right and in front of the charging KL Rahul at leg slip.

Sloppy from Shardul Thakur! Full and on middle, Root drives it off the front foot to mid on where Thakur slides to his left but the ball gets past him. Shardul is late to get back up on his feet and by the time he recovers, the batters run three. Jadeja is not pleased one bit and rightly so. He lets Shardul know with an earful. That was really a schoolboy error from Shardul and unpardonable at this critical stage.

A beauty from Ravindra Jadeja! Angling in and then straightening, on off, Root brings his bat out in front to defend but plays for the ball sliding on with the arm. It sneaks past the outside edge and goes just past the off pole. Pant is late to react and puts it down. Was there an edge? The on-air commentators feel that there were two sounds, but not quite certain.

A massive appeal for LBW but turned down! It was a celebrappeal from Ravindra Jadeja and India have taken the review. This comes on with the arm, on a nagging length, on middle, Root lunges and looks to keep it out with a straight bat. The ball sneaks past the inside edge and catches Root on the front pad. The UltraEdge shows no bat, but guess what, the Ball Tracking shows that the ball is going over the leg stump. It did not look so to the naked eye. India have no reviews left.

FOUR! Expertly played! Sliding on with the arm from around the wicket, full and on middle, Root takes the risk of playing the reverse sweep against the angle. Manages to connect well and it goes along the ground, past short third for a boundary.

Oh, my goodness! Another one from Jadeja landing on the rough and shoots up a bit, Ben Stokes reaches out in front and swings hard for the reverse sweep. The ball spins past him and goes over the stumps. Catches Rishabh Pant on the chest.

Pushed through, short and outside off, cut away past point for a single by Stokes.

Caught by Sai Sudharsan at short leg and India go up in unison but the finger stays down. Shubman Gill has a word with the keeper and the bowler. Sudharsan looks convinced and India take the review. Tossed up from over the wicket, on a nagging length, around off, Stokes reaches out in front for the reverse but the ball spins past the bat and hits Ben on the right forearm before lobbing to short leg. OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Strangled down the leg side! Two in two for Shardul Thakur and this will uplift the Indian spirits big time. An innocuous delivery, sliding down leg, on a length, Brook walks down the track and gets inside the line for the tickle. Ends up getting a feather on it and Rishabh Pant dives to his left to pouch it. 99 in the first innings but a golden duck in the second for Brook. And now, from 253/2, England have slipped down to 253/4. Shardul is on a hat-trick.

OUT! CAUGHT! Ben Duckett cannot quite believe it! The Headingley crowd rise to applaud Duckett for what has been a knock that is worth its weight in gold. Pitched up by Thakur from around the wicket, around off, Duckett is sort of lured by the full ball and his eyes light up. Goes hard on the drive and cannot keep the shot along the ground. Hits it hard and low to the left of cover where the substitute fielder, Nitish Kumar Reddy stays low to snaffle it. The Headingley rises in appreciation for a knock that will be remembered for a long time as Ben Duckett walks to the dressing room, scoring 149 (170). England are 253/3 now.
