The suspense over who will represent the cricket Board in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) annual conference continues. On Thursday, a clear picture was expected to emerge, but despite much deliberation among the top board officials, there was no breakthrough.
The only thing that could be confirmed was that interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya will be flying to London on Friday. However, N Srinivasan is also set to board a flight in the days to come. And vice-president, Arun Jaitley, is already there on a personal visit.
The ICC meet will commence on June 25 with a meeting of chief executives, followed by sub-committee meetings and that of the board of directors.
Keeping mum
On Thursday, attention was on Dalmiya, who has emerged as the key figure post the betting and spot-fixing controversy. Wearing a cream safari suit, Dalmiya reached the BC Roy Club House around 7.45pm, and before entering spent a long time in conversation with Gautam Dasgupta, the former BCCI official. On entering the office, he spent some time with Biswarup Dey, the CAB treasurer, and left at 8.25pm. He said he had nothing to say to the media and will talk only when an official announcement has to be made.
However, officials at the CAB and the BCCI, speaking on condition of anonymity as they are not authorised to talk to the media on this issue, said Dalmiya would attend the ICC meetings. He is likely to leave on Friday evening after attending a special general meeting of the CAB.
