CSK finally stopped the unbeaten streak of Kings XI Punjab in the tournament registering a comprehensive 65-run win to set up a summit clash with KKR on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 182, Kings XI Punjab capitulated to CSK’s breathtaking fielding and disciplined bowling. The promise of a batting spectacle was only one way as Kings XI could not live up to the billing and wilted under pressure. Kings XI kept their worst for the last, in pursuit of CSK’s 182, they could only manage 117.
Sehwag helping the team’s cause in a big chase only remained in theory as he departed for another duck leaving them at the hands of young Manan Vohara and Wriddhiman Shah. Soon,Saha perished to a wild heave exposing his stumps off Nehra. Maxwell’s arrival drew the largest cheer from the crowed but the batsman lasted just four balls. Bravo’s explosive knock of 67 off just 39 balls was riding on two dropped chances though. Bravo was dropped on 8 and 30. Bravo blasted seven fours and three sixes before caught by Maxwell off Akshar Patel.
Du Plessis’ knock of 46 was riddled with pull shots as well as heavy on scoop shots, some of them fetched useful boundaries. But in a surprise move Dhoni sent Pawan Negi at the fall of du Plessis. But the move lost out to a sterling performance from Awana who in his fourth over dismissed Negi and Dhoni for a duck to complete a hat-trick. Awana earlier had taken Raina’s wicket on the last ball of his third over.
