"I'm delighted to have made a comeback," Gambhir told the Hindustan Times minutes after Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah announced the one-day international and Test teams in Mumbai.

"I have worked really hard on my game. I did well in the Ranji one-dayers and am glad to have got another opportunity to prove my mettle.

"This is a critical tour, especially for me, and it is very important that I seize the opportunity and cement my place in the side," he added.

Although Gambhir admitted that was hurt after getting a cold shoulder for the World Cup, he insists that he has put the disappointment firmly behind him.

"The World Cup is over and I would like to forget that chapter. What matters is that I do well now," he said.

"Qay sera sera," he said.
