A day after the unveiling of the 2011 World Cup, there were apprehensions among Bangladesh fans. Tickets for international matches, which till date have been made available through nationalised banks, will now be available through outlets of a particular mobile phone company.
“The place where I stay in Narayangunge around 30km from here does not have an outlet. To see a match at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium, I will have to find an outlet one day and then spend another watching the match,” a regular at cricket grounds here, among the few who turned out for Sunday’s match, said.
Tying the knot
The Bangladesh players, all dressed in formal suits, stepped into the hotel lobby on Saturday evening to go out for the trophy unveiling ceremony. But quite a few had their ties in hand. So wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim offered to help. He tied at least five in the next 20 minutes.
‘Official’ launch
When the WC was unveiled at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka, it was surprising to see the three top officials of the host nations hold aloft the Cup instead of the captains. Two of them, Sahkib Al Hasan and Kumar Sangakkara, were present while M S Dhoni decided to give it a miss.
