The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), guardians of cricket's laws, and the ICC, the game's apex body, are gunning for day-night Tests, but Muttiah Muralitharan doesn't approve of the idea.
"I don't think it will work. Some people will have an undue advantage because of conditions while some will have a disadvantage," Murali, told the Hindustan Times.
"Test cricket will go on forever. You don't need to improve it. Players want to play it because it's the ultimate."
While former ICC chief David Morgan had hoped he would "soon see day-night Tests in Australia or India", and the MCC also backed the introduction of floodlit Tests to counter Twenty20's onslaught.
But Murali, as with many other things, has a unique take on this. Ask him about his Tamil heritage and the outlook is similarly refreshing. "It's not about Tamils, Sinhalase, Muslims or Buddhists in this country. It's all about Sri Lanka. I am a Sri Lankan and want to be known only as a Sri Lankan," Murali said.
"These things happened in the past, mistakes of some people and some politicians, so you have to blame them for that. Hopefully in future, everything will fall into line and people will love to be called Sri Lankans. Once they realise the honour of being Sri Lankan, this country will go forward."
Having said that, the office quickly clarified that he had no political ambitions. But the 38-year-old was not as categorical about joining cricket administration in Sri Lanka, which has been in a mess for quite some time. "I don't know what is mess or what is not mess. But at the moment I am not interested," Muralitharan said. "About the future, I don't know."

{{/usCountry}}Though Murali was keenly following Sri Lanka's second Test against India, he wasn't missing it, having "had enough of it". But he has made his post-World Cup plans pretty clear.
"Life after World cup is going to be the same because I will play a bit of Twenty20 cricket. And when the body says enough, I will enjoy the rest of my life."
