While Haryana needed to see off the second new ball and put up a big total, visitors Bengal had to wrap up the innings as soon as possible. In the end, both teams managed to reach somewhere in between.

The hosts made a respectable 358, while Bengal led by Ashok Dinda's five-wicket haul, would be feeling that they have the batting to chase down the total after finishing the day on 113 for two. Arindam Das looked solid on way to an unbeaten 70 (10x4) and giving him company was youngster Writam Porel on six. Porel came into the 11 for Manoj Tiwary.

Dinda turned out to be the hero for Bengal. He bowled well in bursts on Tuesday but had just the one wicket to show for, let down on two occasions by his butter-fingered fielders. He needed just six balls on Wednesday to end Haryana skipper Amit Mishra's vigil at the crease and the hosts were reduced to 258 for 6, without adding to their overnight score.

Brief scores: Haryana 1st innings 358 all out (Dinda 5-98) v Bengal 113-2 (A Das batting 70, Mishra 2-16).
