ECB refuses to change domestic schedule

The English and Wales Cricket Board spurned Champions League commissioner Lalit Modi’s advice to tweak their domestic schedule so that it doesn’t clash with the cash-awash Twenty20 extravaganza.

The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday spurned Champions League commissioner Lalit Modi’s advice to tweak their domestic schedule so that it doesn’t clash with the cash-awash Twenty20 extravaganza.

“We will be very reluctant to change our schedules drawn up several months in advance,” an ECB spokesman was quoted as saying in The Times.

“We have not got the scope for bringing the season forward because the championship starts on April 9 and the MCC game against Durham, the champions, is even in March. From our perspective it is going to be tough to do anything. There is no room for manoeuvre,” he added.

Champions League commissioner Modi had given the ECB one week’s time to change its domestic schedule, failing which counties would miss out on a chance to play in the global Twenty20 event to be held from September 10-26.
