Fake WC trophy case: Fans burn Pawar's effigy

Effigy of ICC president and union minister Sharad Pawar was on Monday burnt by cricket fans following reports that the trophy given to the Indian team after they won the World Cup was fake.

Effigy of ICC president and union minister Sharad Pawar was on Monday burnt by cricket fans following reports that the trophy given to the Indian team after they won the World Cup was fake.

"It is disrespect to the Indian team. The Prime Minister should dismiss such minister from his cabinet who has no regard for the feelings of the team and millions of cricket fans," Vinod Dixit, secretary Sri Krishna Vahini, which was also protesting the reports Mathura said.

Media reports on Monday said that the Cup given to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team was a fake and that the original was lying with the customs in Mumbai over non-payment of duties.

Chanting slogans against Pawar, hundreds of cricket fans gathered at Dwarkapuri Crossing not only burnt the effigy of the minister but also beat it with a cricket bat.

"An FIR for misleading the cricket team and millions of cricket fans should be registered against Pawar, since he is trying to justify his wrong action," Mohammad Azlan, a fan said.
