Officials said that just over 4,000 tickets were left for day four in the 46,000-capacity SCG.

"To see the way the public has responded to the Sydney Test is excellent news for the game, and it shows that people still want to watch exciting Test match cricket," Cricket New South Wales chief executive David Gilbert said.

England are chasing their first series triumph in Australia for nearly a quarter of a century after retaining the Ashes with their huge win in this week's fourth Melbourne Test.
