Some of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have dampened Sourav Ganguly's faint hopes of featuring in its fourth edition.The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had sought their views on allowing a team to buy one of the Indian players left unsold in the January auction. But the chances of Ganguly as well as two others - Wasim Jaffer and VRV Singh - have receded as at least four of the 10 teams have opposed the proposal.
Following a request from the Kochi franchisee to allow them to sign Ganguly, IPL chief operating officer, Sundar Raman, mailed all the 10 team owners (see box), seeking their views on amending rules. February 3 is the deadline for the teams to voice their opinions. Though no team had made their protest official, representatives from four franchisees, preferring anonymity, confirmed their response to HT.
