He only scored 19 runs but already Darren Bravo is being spoken about with much excitement in the West Indies. Till recently the slight 20-year-old left-handed batsman was known as the younger brother of Dwayne Bravo.
Allrounder Dwayne’s exploits in T20 cricket have made him a recognised name around the globe, but Darren is just taking his first steps in international cricket.
Darren made his debut in Friday’s ODI against India and his short stint at the crease was enough to set tongues wagging.
“There is some sort of batting technique (similarity), some lookalike, Brian may be his idol,” said West Indian skipper Chris Gayle. But what impressed Gayle was Darren’s manner at the crease. “He didn’t show any form of nerves, being around his brother actually calmed him down a bit,” said Gayle. “He did well batting and in the outfield as well and hopefully he can get a bigger score if the opportunity comes across him again.” Even MS Dhoni was impressed with the little he saw of Darren. “He’s good. He will improve, the more he plays the better for him,” said Dhoni of Darren.

{{/usCountry}}For his part Darren is not uncomfortable with the Lara comparisons. “I hear that a lot, but I go out there and play my game, the Darren Bravo game, and if in the eyes of the people it looks like Lara, then that is their judgment.”
