The images of Mahendra Singh Dhoni parading the entire Indian team in front of the media during the 2009 World T20 championship to prove that they were united are still fresh in the mind of the cricket fans.
Dhoni’s gesture was a reaction to media reports of a rift in the team after the Indian captain had asked reporters to consult the team physiotherapist and not him to know about Virender Sehwag’s shoulder injury that kept him out of the competition.
Sehwag and his shoulder injury is once again the talking point with the Indian opener being replaced by M Vijay in the squad for the tournament that begins in West Indies next month.
And even this time Dhoni had the same answer when asked to elaborate on the injury details. “I am not a physiotherapist. I don’t know anything about the injury. It happened during the IPL but I don’t know when and how the injury happened,” said the Indian captain at a promotional event to launch a kid’s merchandise range named after him at a city hotel here on Friday.
Dhoni, however, admitted that Sehwag’s absence was a cause of concern given the success he has had with his state-mate Gautam Gambhir at the top of the order for India. “We just hope that Vijay ensures that we won’t miss him much,” he added.
