International Cricket Council and a Bollywood actor, Nupur Mehta, have denied claims of match-fixing made by a British newspaper on Sunday.
Sunday Times, which carried out a sting operation, said Indian bookies were using a Hindi filmstar to lure cricketers into throwing English county, IPL and other international games.
“All these allegations are false,” Mehta, who appeared in a supporting role in Jo Bole So Nihal, told mediapersons in Mumbai on Monday.
The report also quoted bookies as saying that the last year's world cup semifinal between India and Pakistan was fixed.
“The story carried by the newspaper, in which it has claimed that the ICC is investigating the… semifinal between India and Pakistan, is baseless and misleading,” ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat said in a statement.
The newspaper carried a picture of the actor, with the face blurred, to say she was working with the bookies.
The picture, taken during Jo Bole…, was used without her permission, the actor said. She didn't know Vicky Seth -- one of the alleged bookies the newspaper spoke to - or any cricketer in person.
"My relation with cricket is like that of any other fan," she said. Mehta said she watched the India-Pakistan clash on TV at home. Saying the game was clean, the ICC said it had no reason or evidence to investigate the match.
“It is sad for spurious claims to be made, which only serve to cause doubt on the semis of one of the most successful WC ever," it said.
