The accused official was identified as Holika Sen Oberoi, who works as legal advisor to ICC. She was allegedly seen doing this outside the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali on Wednesday afternoon when India was playing against Pakistan. She was booked Friday.
Mohali district police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "We have registered a case for showing disrespect to the national flag after going through video footage. We had got the complaint from a local NGO in this regard. Our investigation is on and we would soon call the accused for questioning."
When onlookers objected, Oberoi had a heated argument with them. Dozens of furious fans gathered at the spot and started arguing with her. Oberoi said the balloons and flags were illegally using the ICC's official hologram on them.
However, sources said after the incident, the ICC had issued an unconditional apology over the incident.
