A team from the International Cricket Council inspected the Eden Gardens cricket venue on Monday to see whether it could host three World Cup matches after it was stripped of the showpiece tie between India and England on February 27.
Following a similar inspection last month, the ICC ruled that renovation work was too slow and the venue was unlikely to be ready for its only match featuring India.
The ICC team, which faced a small group of protesters shouting slogans against the world body, left the venue without making comment.
However, a senior local cricket official was upbeat at the stadium's prospects.
Biswarup Dey, joint-secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, which is responsible for matches at Eden Gardens, told reporters: "We are confident of getting a clearance this time. "We have taken care of all the concerns that were pointed out to us by the ICC officials."
The stadium is now due to host three matches _ South Africa vs Ireland on March 15, Ireland v Netherlands on March 18 and Zimbabwe v Kenya on March 20.
The World Cup, which is being co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, begins with a match between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka on February 19.
