The third place match between Pakistan and Afghanistan was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to excessive rain in Queenstown on Thursday. Pakistan were awarded third place on the basis of finishing first in the group stages. Earlier, Pakistan had lost to arch-rivals India in the ICC U-19 cricket World Cup semi-final. They lost by a massive 203-run margin, a record at the Under-19 level, in the last-four clash against India. Afghanistan, on the other hand, lost to Australia in the other semi-final by six wickets. Afghanistan and Pakistan were both placed in Group D where Pakistan finished atop the standings while Afghanistan were second.
