The BCCI may be sceptical about the Indian Cricket League (ICL) but former board president Raj Singh Dungarpur showed no such signs. In fact he sounded optimistic.

“It will only help Indian cricket,” he said, at the release of a cricket book christened Allrounders in Hindi.

“They plan to hire Glenn McGrath for the job and I feel he is without doubt the best man around when it comes to bowling."

“He would bowl consistently on the offside and frustrate the batsman. How many bowlers can bowl with that precision today?” said Dungarpur.

“And if they plan to hire Brian Lara, it will help nurture budding batsmen.

“I am not sure why the board is sceptical. I guess it (ICL) is being compared to the Kerry Packer series…probably that’s why.”

On the coach’s front, he said, “John Dyson’s name is still in the running for the job, there are some other less familiar names as well. But, I suppose, a decision in this regard will be taken at the next working committee meeting.”

Though he refused to divulge the date, he said, “The decision on India ‘A’ (which will tour Kenya in late July) will very likely be decided on July 4.”
