After Rohit Sharma’s batting blitzkrieg took India to 260/5 in the second T20I at Indore on Friday, the hosts took an unassailable 2-0 lead after bowling Sri Lanka out for 172 for an 88-run win.
Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav both picked a combined haul of seven wickets in the match to help India seal a comfortable win.
At the post-match press conference, Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Perera conceded that his side has failed to pick the India wrist spinners in the ongoing T20I series. “They are bowling well and generally the wrist spinners with their variations are hard to pick. However, this was a brilliant wicket to bat on and we could have done better,” he said.
Asked if he would have wanted to undo the decision to bat first, Perera said, “We have to back our strengths. We have good batsmen, but Rohit and Rahul were brilliant and got a good partnership. We can’t control that. We tried to back ourselves and play to our best.”
Perera, however, conceded that they are still in the learning process. “Winning and losing are part of the game. We try to learn from our mistakes. As a team we are trying to improve. We have to think of our batting and how to go about things.”
