Ravichandran Ashwin displayed his utility as a batsman as he notched up his ninth Test fifty. He was ably supported by Ravindra Jadeja as they shared a 67-run partnership. 16:57 hrs IST: That is stumps on day 2 and India will be very happy. The Ashwin-Jadeja stand has helped India come closer to England’s total and they can think about taking the lead. England fought back well but they let themselves down with some sloppy bowling in the final hour.
16:48 hrs IST: R Ashwin gets to his ninth Test fifty. The partnership with Jadeja has been fabulous. As a bowler and a batsman, he has been the difference maker in this series.

Actually,. it was Buttler’s brilliant fielding that resulted in the confusion.

Short leg-break on middle and leg, Pujara rocks back and tries to hit it out of the PCA stadium, but he does not time it well and Chris Woakes at deep mid wicket runs to his left and takes a good, low catch to his left, third umpire just checks whether the catch is clean but Woakes got both his hands under the ball.

08:55 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to a blockbuster Sunday for cricket. India are on top against England in Mohali. In Adelaide, Australia will be pressing for a win in Adelaide while in Hamilton, Pakistan are fighting back against New Zealand. Oh, and by the way, there is also the tri-series final between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
Umesh Yadav (2/58) and Mohammed Shami (1/52) should be going full steam against the English tail today. They will hope that their teammates will back them up with some smart catching.
Alastair Cook won an important toss but the tourists conceded much of the advantage with poor shot selection and could have been in a deeper hole but for India’s poor catching and Jonny Bairstow’s dogged resistance.
Indian fielders dropped four catches in England’s first inning on the first day. Cook was given two reprieves and wicket-keeper Bairstow (89) enjoyed two lives.
The keeper-batsman featured in 50-plus partnerships with Ben Stokes and the recalled Jos Buttler to revive England, who are 1-0 down in the five-match series.
Adil Rashid was batting on four at stumps with Gareth Batty, replacing the injured Zafar Ansari, yet to open his account.
