India vs South Africa Highlights: India have been beaten by 31 runs in the first ODI. The KL Rahul-led side were set a target of 297 in 50 overs. In response, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul took India past 50 inside 9 overs before Markram dismissed the latter on 9. In the 14th over, Dhawan raced to a 51-ball half-century. Keshav Maharaj dismissed Dhawanon 79 and soon after Kohli brought up his 63rd ODI fifty. but the joy was short-lived as he was dismissed on 51 by Tabraiz Shamsi. Pant and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship with a 29-run stand but SA dented their hopes with three quick wickets to leave India 6 down. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashwin didn't last long either as the hosts inched closer to victory. Eventually, Shardul Thakur's unbeaten 50, his first in ODIs, went in vain as India fell way short of the target and finished at 265/8 in 50 overs. In the first innings, India drew first blood as vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Janneman Malan in the 5th over to get India an early breakthrough. 10 overs and 39 runs later, R Ashwin broke the crucial stand between Bavuma and de Kock by castling the latter on 27 and soon after, Aiden Markram was run out by Venkatesh Iyer on 4. Rassie vd Dussen and Temba Bavuma brought up a quick-fire 50-run stand just before Bavuma got to a gritty 50. Then, Rassie vd Dussen got to his fifty and then brought up a century stand with vd Dussen. In the 42nd over, the duo's stand crossed 150. Bavuma, in the 45th over, then got to his second ODI century. 2 overs later, vd Dussen also notched up his 100. Eventually, Bumrah dismissed Bavuma on 110 and vd Dussen ended with his highest score of 129* as SA posted 296/4 in 50 overs.
