Sarwan was hurt when he fell heavily while attempting to stop a drive from England batsman Paul Collingwood on Friday, the opening day of the second Test at Headingley.

"Unfortunately Sarwan's injury will take approximately six weeks to heal and as a result he will not be able to take any further part in this tour," team manager Mike Findlay said. "The selectors are in discussions and a replacement for Sarwan is being sought and as soon as a decision is reached we will make an announcement on who the player is."

Daren Ganga took over the captaincy in Sarwan's absence and the West Indies batted one short as it fell to a record Test defeat of an innings and 283 runs on Monday.

"I have confidence that the boys will be able to rebound after the defeat at Headingley and give a better account of themselves and the team as a whole," Sarwan said.

The West Indies will also play two Twenty20 matches and three one-day internationals against England.
