The injury is causing the 27-year-old pain while bowling, and he struggled in nets on Monday ahead of his team's second and last warm-up match against Kenya in Colombo.

He also missed his side's first warm-up match against Sri Lanka on Saturday, which the hosts won by 156 runs.

Team manager Ed van Nierop said no final decision had been made on Borren and only the medical team would be able to say whether he will be fit for the team's World Cup opener against England in Nagpur on February 22.

"It is the same injury Stuart Broad suffered," van Nierop told AFP.

"The medical team has continued to assess him, but the problem is that the two MRI scans have shown nothing."

Borren will have six days after the England game to recover before the next match against the West Indies in Delhi.

"We had the first scan in Dubai earlier this month but that too didn't show anything," said the manager.

Borren, who bowls right-arm medium and bats in the middle-order, has so far played 39 one-day internationals and was part of the Dutch team in the last World Cup held in the Caribbean four years ago.

The Netherlands are in Group B of the 14-team event, which is being jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh between February 19 to April 2.
