The Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee examined around 100 persons before finalising the IPL spot-fixing scandal with its investigators having to coerce information out of many of the players it questioned.

With the Supreme Court having released only the names of officials - sidelined BCCI chief N Srinivasan, IPL COO Sundar Raman as well as team officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra - all interest is focused on the other nine names, which are players with intense focus on 'Individual 2' and 'Individual 3' who find mention in the portions of the report released.

Reluctant to talk

"Most of them didn't want to tell us what they knew. Cricketers were tight-lipped, and sometimes answers were one-liners. We listened to whatever they said calmly and then confronted them with details we had. We had done our homework," an investigator told HT. "That tactic worked perfectly. A few of them also broke down when they were confronted like this."

Police officers from Delhi, Maharashtra and Chennai were part of the investigation team. The investigators travelled to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Rajasthan to examine those allegedly involved in the scam as well as others.

BB Mishra, deputy director general, Narcotics Control Bureau, who led the investigations, was assisted by S Thirunavukarasu, additional superintendent, Tamil Nadu Police and inspectors Chimaji Jaganath Ashav (Maharashtra Police), S Prabakaran (Tamil Nadu) and Prahlad Singh Yadav (Delhi Police).
