While his team hasn’t been in the thick of action on the field like others so far, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has been making news thanks to the surprises he is popping up regularly. Over the past week, his twitter messages pulling the leg of teammate, Ravindra Jadeja, over ‘the miracles he can perform’, has everyone rivetted.
On Saturday, Dhoni threw another surprise, this time at RCB’s miracle man, Chris Gayle. A day earlier, CSK coach Stephen Fleming had hinted they’d marked out R Ashwin to thwart Gayle. But Dhoni used his three pacers first up and one of them consumed the dangerous Calypso King.
These days, Gayle takes his time at the wicket and then unleashes his destructive shots. Unusually, he nicked a wide delivery from Chris Morris.
But skipper Virat Kohli dug in along with Mayank Agarwal and then with AB de Villiers. They took on Jadeja and others towards the end of the 82-run Kohli-De Villiers partnership, which took just eight overs.
Kohli didn’t hit boundaries but scored at better than run-a-ball for his 58, regaining the orange cap. De Villiers hit a 32-ball 64.
RCB got rid of Murali Vijay and Mike Hussey. But Suresh Raina and S Badrinath dug in and a Muralitharan-less attack started to wane, until his replacement J Syed Mohammad took a couple of wickets. But Dhoni was there with his miracle man.
