Kumar Sangakkara is in the form of his life after retiring from international cricket in 2015. The Sri Lankan left-hander, who is playing for Surrey in the English County circuit in 2017, continued to rake up records with ease as he continued his Bradmanesque form.
Sangakkara smashed an unbeaten 180, his sixth century in the season as he propelled Surrey to 516/7 declared during a heavily rain affected Day Two at Headingley against Yorkshire. With this knock, the former Sri Lankan skipper entered a prestigious club.
Sangakkara became the first batsman to go past 1000 runs in the current County season. In seven matches so far, he has 1086 runs at an astonishing average of 108.6 with his highest score being 200, which he smashed against Essex in Chelmsford in May.
The Sri Lankan star has enjoyed a record-breaking in this year. During the Royal London One-Day tournament match against Yorkshire, Sangakkara reached his 100th hundred across first-class and List A cricket. At the start of the County Championships in May, Sangakkara smashed five consecutive centuries.
Sangakkara will retire from cricket after the end of the County Championship. He had retired from international cricket after the series against India in August 2015. In his international career, he had smashed 14234 runs in 404 ODIs with 25 centuries at an average of 41.98. In 134 Tests, he blasted 12400 runs at a remarkable average of 57.4 with 38 centuries.
