The Test series win against England has sparked off a debate on whether the Indian team really needs a coach. After all, the Men in Blue first beat Bangladesh in Bangladesh, South Africa in Ireland and England here — without a man in charge.

But skipper Rahul Dravid has again insisted that the team is not really without a coach.

“We do have a team management in place,” Dravid said. “After all, it’s the captain’s responsibility to see where his team is going.

“It’s my responsibility, along with a couple of coaches and the senior players, to decide the general direction in which the team is going… and to ensure that it should have enough skill to perform in all conditions.”

Dravid, however, refused to say whether he wanted a head coach to be appointed.

“At the end of the day, it’s not my decision, there is a committee in place, which will decide,” he said. “It will not be prudent for me to make a comment here. We have had success on this tour. Simply put, other factors have also helped us. We can’t just focus on the coach.”

That’s typical Dravid, isn’t it? Let’s hope that the skipper would put forward his views if and when asked by the coach-seeking committee.
