A stupendous partnership of 176 between Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a clinical nine wicket win over Delhi Daredevils at the Ferozeshah Kotla in Delhi on Thursday. The win not only cements SRH’s position at the top of the Indian Premier League table but also assures them off a playoff berth while DD are knocked out of the eleventh edition of the tournament. Earlier a superb century by Rishabh Pant had helped Delhi score 187/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from the form, history is also against DD having lost seven of the 11 encounters against their southern rivals including their previous match in Hyderabad less than a week ago.
DD will be hoping that young Indian trio of Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer can tackle what has been by far the best bowling attack in the competition. Delhi will take heart from the fact that they came close to beating Kane Williamson-led outfit in their last match.
A win for Sunrisers Hyderabad will cement their place at the top of the table and the team will be guaranteed a place in IPL 2018 playoffs. Shikhar Dhawan, after making a rollicking start, has been off-colour and a good score by him going into the final weeks will be welcomed.
Glenn Maxwell opened the batting for Delhi in the last match but given the lack of runs he could be replaced by either Colin Munro or Jason Roy.
Should Pant score 43 or more runs he will become the seventh Delhi batsman to have scored 1000 runs for the franchise.
