One-day cricket could get faster and meaner if the ICC accepts Sachin Tendulkar's roadmap that includes split innings to break the monotony of the 50-overs-a-side game.
Tendulkar has proposed a Test-like contest - four innings of 25-overs each.
In a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO, Haroon Lorgat, the batsman also wants the 10-over cap for bowlers to be done away with. A bowler can't bowl more than 10 overs in a one-day match.
The split innings suggestion, however, will not be among the changes that come into force in the ODIs from October 1.
An ICC official said the letter, seen by the UK's The Times and written after India's World Cup triumph, was debated by its cricket committee but the governing body decided to keep the basic format intact.
The panel recommended two separate balls, from either end. It suggested the batting and bowling powerplays - once the first 10-over field restrictions are over - only between the 16-40 overs. The ICC ratified the suggestions.
